Lamor delivers OPRC IMO Training at PetroChina’s Benin Project

In August, PetroChina’s Benin Project team completed Lamor’s OPRC (IMO) Level 1 and OPRC (IMO) Level 2 training, strengthening their ability to respond to oil spill emergencies. The initiative highlights our commitment to safe, sustainable operations and environmental protection.
Preparedness is the foundation of effective oil spill response. Recognizing this, Lamor together with PetroChina organized a comprehensive OPRC IMO training program for the Benin Project team, ensuring personnel at all levels are equipped to handle emergencies with confidence and efficiency.
The training was carefully designed in line with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Cooperation (OPRC) Model Training Course, combining theory with practice to deliver maximum impact.
The OPRC (IMO) Level 1 course focused on personnel who may lead response teams in the event of an incident. Through a mix of lectures and real-case analyses, participants gained a clear understanding of the behavior of oil spills, environmental impact factors and initial containment and cleanup procedures. The emphasis was on building rapid response capabilities, ensuring participants could act decisively in the first crucial hours of an emergency.
The OPRC (IMO) Level 2 course targeted on-site commanders, offering deeper insights into advanced oil spill strategies, command coordination and multi-party collaboration. Emergency drills simulating complex scenarios gave participants the opportunity to apply their learning in practice, improving their ability to manage on-site operations in an effective manner.
Interactive sessions played a key role in the training, encouraging communication, teamwork and collaborative problem-solving. This improved individual skillsets and strengthened team cohesion which are essential factors in real-world emergency response.
The training was well received by all participants, who highlighted how it enhanced their practical knowledge, improved their operational readiness and built confidence in managing potential oil spill situations.
