1) Why do customers need Lamor equipment in an emergency?
 

Lamor regularly receives requests for assistance for different oil spill emergency scenarios, such as a sunken vessel or tanker, pipeline leak or rollover of a tanker truck. The request for additional equipment and/or personnel is often a result of an ongoing incident which exceeds in-country or customer resources Occasionally the customer may have an emergency where the request is more urgent, requiring mobilisation of equipment or personnel, sometimes to remote locations. The most common urgent needs are for oil booms, skimmers, pumping systems and other supporting response equipment. On some occasions, Lamor personnel are requested  to help operate the equipment delivered and sometimes to assist with managing the response.

2) How quickly can Lamor deliver equipment? 

Lamor has a 24/7 emergency phone number, which gives our customers immediate access to a senior member of our response management team. They will work closely with the customer to identify the most effective response strategy and the necessary mobilisation of resources to site by the most timely option. Options might include the use of charter aircraft or commercial cargo flights for equipment. Personnel in country or the region may be deployed immediately because they do not need a visa, for example. The delivery time for standard equipment is usually within 24-48 hours. Delivery times will vary depending on the final location, and other practical aspects. A Master Service Agreement or call-off contract between the customer and Lamor assists the process in case of emergencies.

3) Where does the equipment come from? 

The main reason for the quick delivery times is that Lamor has pre-positioned stockpiles in strategic locations around the globe, such as Finland, SpainUSA, Guyana, Peru, Ecuador, Oman, China, and several others. Having a constant  stock of oil spill response equipment is a strong advantage for our customers. Lamor provides equipment and trained personnel to 104 countries and has fully operating entities in over 20 countries worldwide.

4) What are some examples of Lamor’s emergency response activity? 

Within the last 12 months, Lamor has received and responded to several urgent requests. A couple recent examples include equipment shipped from the USA and Oman to an emergency in Australia and for another incident  from the United Kingdom to Trinidad. The delivery process in these cases can be described in 3 simple steps: 

1. Identifying the closest business unit. 
2. Sourcing the most appropriate items for the request and operating environmentplus proximity and delivery time to the incident site. 
3. Working with the respective procurement and logistics departments to arrange delivery to site.

These operations are managed through our Integrated Management System that allows effective mobilisation and clear communications, involving the right people at the right time. 

For larger incidents, Lamor is always prepared to support the customer and is able to ship, deliver and commission equipment in large quantities. During the clean-up of the Deepwater Horizon incident in the Gulf of Mexico (2010), Lamor delivered more oil booms, skimmers and pump systems than any other oil spill response manufacturer.
