Inderes-TV visits Lamor’s Kilpilahti circular oil plant as mechanical installation work nears completion – watch video!

Inderes-TV visited Lamor’s recycling concept plant in Kilpilahti In late November, providing a firsthand look at the progress on site. The visit brought analyst Thomas Westerholm (photo: left) from Inderes to the facility, where he toured the plant and received an update on how preparations for commissioning are advancing rapidly.

Mechanical installations approaching the finish line
During the walkthrough, Lamor’s CEO Johan Grön (photo: right) outlined the status of installations, upcoming test phases, and the roadmap toward full-scale operations for the first production line.
Most installation work across the plant has already been completed. The final components of the main process line are being assembled, following the arrival of key process modules from Italy in October and November.
“At the moment, the work is progressing at full speed. Certain tests have already been carried out, preparations are underway, and the mechanical installations of the final process equipment are already close to completion”, said Grön.
Cold commissioning set to begin soon – pilot testing and material handling trials underway
With the modules almost integrated, the facility is nearing cold commissioning. This stage involves running all rotating equipment, verifying automation and control systems, and ensuring the plant functions safely before introducing any materials into the process.
Once the cold phase is completed, the plant will move to hot commissioning, when recycled feedstock is fed into the system for the first time and the initial batches of recycled oil are produced.
Alongside the finalizing of the main process line, Lamor is already running trials with its smaller-scale pilot equipment. These tests explore how different plastic feedstocks and catalyst selections affect process performance. Material-handling tests are also ongoing, including shredder capacity trials with a variety of plastic types. Early results have been positive and support readiness for continuous operation.
Capacity buildup and next steps
The first production line is designed for a capacity of approximately 6–7 kilotonnes of recycled circular oil per year. Around twenty people will operate it, including operators, shift supervisors, technical specialists, process engineers, and laboratory staff – most already on location. During the ongoing project phase, external contractors such as electrical teams also remain active on site.
Once the first line has been fully validated in operation, Lamor will assess decisions regarding further expansion. The concept plant in Kilpilahti has been designed to house a total of four production lines.
“For now, our focus remains on completing commissioning and then bringing production steadily up to commercial scale with the first production line”, says Grön.
