Lamor delivered an in built oil recovery system to Endam

Lamor successfully delivered an in-built oil recovery system (LORS) to South Korean shipbuilder Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC). The project was a good example of Lamor’s capabilities to support oil spill response preparedness in new regions.

LORS is a vessel-mounted advancing skimming system based on Lamor’s proven conveyor chain brush technology. The system is deployed at the nation's first multipurpose large oil spill response vessel in South Korea.

The new multi-purpose vessel was ordered by the local government agency Korea Marine Environment Management Corporation (KOEM).Named Endam, the vessel will be used primarily for oil recovery work but may also be utilised as a hopper dredger. This 102m-long and 20.6m-wide ship has a displacement of 5,000 tonnes and a hopper capacity of 4,100 cubic metres.

The in-built LORS system design and delivery project started in July 2020 and was finished in May 2022 according to the plan. The project required advanced system design capabilities to provide the highest possible performance and safety for oil spill recovery operations.

The delivered Lamor in-built oil recovery system consists of a brush skimmer package, a hydraulic unit pack, and various oil pumps in order to deal with oils of varying viscosity. This system has been designed to work in wave heights of up to four meters. In addition, the Lamor team also designed and delivered the side doors for the vessel.

"We learned a lot from this challenging but interesting project. It required a lot of advanced design skills from Lamor and we have proven our ability to be a reliable partner for sophisticated vessels' in-built systems for the most demanding customers worldwide", says Klaudiusz Stolarski, Projects Director of Lamor.

The Lamor team, coordinated by Service Engineer Henry Finni , was able to deliver the project in time despite the travel restrictions using remote cooperation methods. Lamor developed remote commissioning capabilities that will reduce unnecessary travel in the future and provide better support for our customers. This LORS system specially created for oil recovery supports Lamor’s mission to clean the world together with our customers.
