IMAROS 2 Final Conference Nov 2025 event

The final conference of the IMAROS 2 project takes place on 18–19 November 2025 in Malta, as a hybrid event. Mathias Lindroos from Lamor will give a short presentation and take part in a panel focusing on the project's experiences.

IMAROS 2 ("Impacts And Response Options regarding low sulphur marine fuel oil Spills") runs from 2024 to the end of 2025. It builds on the original IMAROS project and addresses key gaps in understanding how low-sulphur fuel oils (LSFOs) behave in spills and how to respond effectively.

This conference is significant because the shift toward low-sulphur fuels that are driven by stricter air emissions regulations has introduced new challenges in responding to spills, and IMAROS 2 provides crucial clarity on how these fuels behave in the environment.

The project’s results strengthen operational capabilities by improving strategies and technologies for both offshore mechanical recovery and shoreline response. Beyond immediate response enhancements, the lessons learned will inform future guidelines, training programs and potentially even policy development, supporting more resilient and effective spill preparedness systems across Europe.

The IMAROS 2 final conference will present the project’s key findings and innovations, accompanied by discussions on the future of marine oil spill response. The event will bring together civil protection experts, stakeholders, industry representatives and project partners from across Europe, creating a platform for sharing insights and operational experiences.

In addition, all presentations delivered during the event will be published online afterward, ensuring broad access to the knowledge generated: https://www.kystverket.no/oljevern-og-miljoberedskap/forskning-og-utvikling/imaros-2/final-conference-in-malta
