Vessel of Opportunity (VOO)

One of the most efficient and suitable applications for a Vessel of Opportunity (VOO) configuration is the Minimax 30 skimmer in aluminum, coupled with a Lamor GTA 50 oil transfer pump and a Power Pack LPP 58. The Multimax or the Minimax skimmers can alternatively be used.

Lamor supported the Vessel of Opportunity (VOO) program during the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, training local fishermen and converting their fishing vessels (shrimper and fishing) to oil spill response vessels. Lamor designed a skimmer and oil containment boom configurations for the VOO program.

The Multimax skimmer was especially developed for this purpose, based on earlier experiences in spill operations. The Lamor brush skimmers, certified by Bureau Veritas, recover all types of oil, crude, weathered viscous as well as light oils.

Depending on the size and type of the vessel, the Lamor team of design engineers can supply several custom made oil recovery solutions.

Usage Areas

Preferred package solution

One of the most efficient and suitable applications for a Vessel of Opportunity (VOO) configuration is the Lamor Minimax 30 skimmer in aluminum, coupled with a Lamor GTA 50 oil transfer pump and a Lamor Power Pack LPP 58.

The recommended storage for recovered oil is in this case the Lamor LFT 10, which is a durable floating storage tank designed for the storage of recovered oil primarily at sea but it can also be used on land. The LFT 10 Storage bladder is manufactured from oil and fuel resistant Urethane/PVC that is blended and coated with high tenacity fabric. The entire manufacturing process involves only welding, hence offering a much stronger alternative to glued or sewed storage bladders. All fittings used in the composition of the LFT 10 are marine grade aluminum.

The recommended oil transfer pump is the Lamor GTA 50, a multi-purpose submersible Archimedes screw pump with a pumping capacity of 50m³/h. This pump has been designed for use in skimmers and transfer or off-loading pump applications and is able to pump a wide range of liquids ranging from water to the heaviest debris-laden viscous oils.

The special internal geometry of the Lamor GTA design ensures a gentle pumping action that will not emulsify oily water, and ensures the efficient movement of material through the unit. The pump can also handle solids up to 30mm in diameter and should the pump become clogged, it can be reversed to expel the blockage. The GTA pump range has been extensively field-tested and has received accreditation from Bureau Veritas certifying their recovery capacities in oils of varying viscosities.
