Clean Globe International founds oil spill response centers in Oman

Clean Globe International (CGI), member of the Lamor Group, has established a subsidiary in Oman - Clean Globe Gulf (CGG). To begin with, CGG operates two oil spill response centers and also equips them with Lamor oil spill response equipment. The centers can also take care of port waste, especially oily waste. In the first phase, the Finnish company will deliver oil spill response equipment to Oman worth ca. one million euros, and the amount of equipment will increase as more service contracts are signed. In addition to the service contracts, the client will pay CGG separately for the clean-up costs in case an oil spill accident occurs.

CGG's contract adheres to the Marpol Convention that the state of Oman signed on December 1, 2006, covering prevention of pollution of the marine environment. In addition to prohibiting the relase of bilge water into the sea, the Marpol Convention also stipulates preperadness for oil and chemical accidents. Oman is so far the only state in the Arabian Seas that has signed the Marpol Convention.

-The Marpol Convention comes into effect in the beginning of next year. CGG's agreements for environmental protection are in many ways historical for the area. Along with the agreements, the Sultan of Oman Qaboons bin Said Al Said has joined the Oman Sea area of the Arabian Seas to the group of designated special sea areas in the world to which also the Baltic Sea belongs, said Lasse Parvinen, CEO of Clean Globe International. Since approx. 40 per cent of all oil transports in the world take place in the Arabian Seas, the agreement has, according to Parvinen, significant importance not only for the Middle East but also for the protection of the sea areas of the rest of the world.

-Thanks to these agreements and the resulting investments, Oman is clearly the most environmentally conscious nation in the Middle East. Moreover, in the beginning of December a law came into force in Oman according to which all companies that operate within the country's coastal regions must submit a report covering their environmental protection and they must also have preparedness for oil spill response. The oil spill response centers will be developed in line with our model so that they also will offer other environmental services, Lasse Parvinen said. 50 % of Clean Globe Gulf LLC is owned by the Finnish company and the other half is owned by the Omani company Shwar International.
