Lamor acquired ballast water treatment manufacturer Hyde Marine, Inc
LAMOR ACQUIRED BALLAST WATER TREATMENT MANUFACTURER HYDE MARINE, INC
Lamor Group, a world leader in oil spill response and environmental technologies with headquarters in Vantaa, Finland, expanded its business operations to new fields of environmental technology by acquiring full ownership of American ballast water treatment manufacturer Hyde Marine, Inc., based in Cleveland Ohio, USA. The acquisition is part of Lamor's growth strategy.
-Through ownership of Hyde Marine we significantly increase our focus and ability to grow on the global environmental technology market. Hyde Marine is a leader in developing ballast water technologies, and this acquisition gives us an excellent opportunity to expand our environmental technology range, said Rasmus Guldbrand, CEO of Lamor Group.
- We are most pleased to join Lamor, a strong global leader in the oil spill response market. This merger will greatly enhance Hyde's ability to serve the ballast water treatment market worldwide, explained Tom Mackey, CEO of Hyde Marine, Inc.
Hyde's Ballast Treatment Systems Controlling Aquatic Nuisance Species
It is estimated that about 10 billion tonnes of ballast water are transferred globally each year, potentially transferring from one location to another marine species that may prove ecologically harmful when released into a non-native environment. The International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Ballast Water Management Convention will soon require that all existing or newly built ships have IMO type approved Ballast Water Treatment Systems installed. About 75 000 ships over the next 10 years will need Ballast Water Treatment systems, making it a multi billion dollar market globally.
- Hyde Marine's Hyde GuardianT Ballast Treatment System protects the maritime environment and efficiently reduces the impact of aquatic nuisance species in new ecosystems, Guldbrand told.
- The territorial conquest of the latest invasive species in the Baltic Sea, the American comb jelly (Mnemiopsis leidyi) could have been prevented if IMO's global legislation for ballast treatment would have been in force and our ballast treatment system in use, added Guldbrand.
Hyde Marine has invested significant resources in the development of ballast water technologies designed to enhance the protection of the marine environment. The system is currently undergoing IMO type approval through the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) in cooperation with Lloyds Register.
The type approval process for Hyde Marine's Hyde GuardianT Ballast Treatment System will be coordinated together with the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. VTT is an impartial expert organisation providing research, development, testing and information services to the public sector and to companies.

Pressrelease; Dubai, UAE - Lamor Swire Environmental Solutions (LSES), a 50:50 Joint Venture between Lamor Group Ltd (Lamor) and Swire Pacific Offshore Limited (SPO), prepares for the Grand Opening of a Gulf Region Oil Spill Response Centre. The opening will take place October 15th, 2008, in Dubai, UAE. The Depot, located in the Jebel Ali Trade Free Zone, is offering brand new "state of the art" oil spill response equipment packages for regular rental and emergency service.
LSES provides the oil & gas sector with cost effective and contemporary solutions to oil spill preparedness and response. Starting right now you can rent a readily available oil spill response package that can be delivered to your required address on the next available cargo charter flight. LSES is establishing strategically located Regional emergency response Depots capable of offering guaranteed, safe, rapid and overlapping access to oil spill protection and combat resources across all three Tiers and both Industry and Government sectors.
The LSES Gulf Region Oil Spill Response centre opens in Dubai this September and serves as a one-stop shop for practical marine spill solutions including training, exercises, equipment and tiered response. It is supported by a proven logistics network and dedicated personnel deployed and trained to combat spills of regional, national and international significance.
By the end of September 2008 the entire stockpile will be ready and primed for regular rental services and for emergency use. The stockpile is the largest, most diverse and modern, compared to any other centralised resource in the Region. For the sake of user ease and maximum efficiency the stockpile has been segmented into 42 stand-alone packages, each of which would satisfy a Tier 1 requirement and if used together could combat either a Tier 2 or even a Tier 3 response.
To ensure that the excellent quality of the equipment is maintained all of the equipment assets have been entered into a state of the art warehouse database management system, which tracks the equipment location by bar code. The system also prompts the planned maintenance checks required. During the first two weeks of September, the equipment is undergoing a rigorous independent commissioning check.
Opening Including Spill Response Seminar and Interactive Demonstrations
Senior Industry & Government executives from across the Gulf Region and beyond have been invited to witness first hand the scope and scale of the new service. The program includes a dinner reception, a half day seminar on marine spill response, ceremonial grand opening and interactive demonstrations of the offshore, near-shore, shore-protection, shore clean-up, ports and marina packages.
